Leadership development

To successfully lead teams in today’s complex and rapidly changing world demands an understanding of how teams work. At the Centre for Team Excellence we believe that leadership development that focuses on the leader is important but not enough. Leaders equipped with insights into the powerful forces of team dynamics can consistently create teams that perform. Leaders attending our development programmes learn to use the Teamship methodology to build commitment and high performance in a team.

Leadership Training

Simmering conflicts, politics, apathy, low accountability, and complacency – these are familiar challenges faced by leaders in today’s rapidly changing, complex, virtual organisations. The leadership challenge exists in the relationships between leaders and followers and most leadership training simply does not address this.

Our unique approach to leadership training gives leaders practical insights into how to harness powerful group dynamics to develop relationships that drive performance. Participants consider “Why should anyone follow me?” They learn:

  • What makes people want to follow, giving them insights into the team dynamics that will be critical if they are to create and lead high performing teams.
  • How to form new teams, take-over existing teams and lead multiple teams in ways that improve performance.
  • The skill to diagnose a team’s problems and overcome them, either as the team leader, the boss of the leader, or even as a team member.

We have extensive experience of designing and running leadership training; both complete programmes and modules that are integrated into existing programmes in many organisations.

Leadership Coaching

Our extensive experience of working with leaders and their teams has made our consultants well equipped to coach middle and senior leaders in organisations. Coaching can help leaders to acquire new mental strategies that enable them to fulfil their potential as leaders.

The outcomes from leadership coaching include:

  • Increased self-awareness. In particular to be better able to reflect upon how beliefs, attitudes and values drive emotions and affect a leader’s performance.
  • Self-mastery. This involves learning new ways of thinking about events in order to exert more control over responses and become more resourceful. The emphasis is not on changing you as a person, but on helping you to unleash your potential and to clarify and realise your goals and ambitions
  • Life Balance. Inevitably for peak performance to become ingrained it must be fully congruent with other aspects of your life and so time will be spent striving to ensure that the end point will give you job satisfaction and a sustainable balanced lifestyle.
  • Improved performance. The ultimate objective for coaching is to help you become a more successful leader. This may involve interacting with people more effectively (bosses, peers & subordinates), increasing your influence, stronger creativity, improving task and resource management, understanding your stress and coping with it – but the focus will be dictated by you. Coaching aims to help you unleash your psychological resources to improve your performance and the performance of your department.

Coaching programmes typically have three stages and last for between 4 and 8 sessions spread over several months.
